Windows seven gives you the ability to rotate your desktop. This is helpful if you are having a monitor which can be rotated. Also it comes in handy when you are using your monitor in potrait mode, ie its more in height than in width. Here I will tell you how to change the desktop orientation in windows seven. Here goes.

Rotate your desktop in windows seven

To do this go to your screen resolution in control panel. Statr – Control Panel – Appearance and Personalization – Display – Adjust Screen Resolution. There you will get a option which says ‘orientation’ Select the option you need. See the screenshot

What modes (orientations) are available in windows 7 desktop

The options are as follows.

Landscape Orientation mode

Its the normal one. By normal I mean a desktop with default orientation settings.

Portrait Orientation mode

This rotates the desktop 90 degrees counter-clockwise. The task-bar is on the right-hand side edge (on an unrotated monitor).

Landscape (flipped) orientation mode

This rotates the desktop through 18o degrees. In effect the task-bar on the top edge (of an unrotated monitor).

Potrait (flipped) orientation mode

This rotates the desktop 90 degrees clockwise. The task-bar is on the left edge (of a unrotated monitor.)

Rotating desktop orientation on the fly Keyboard Shortcuts

The keyboard shortcuts for desktop rotation are-

  • Alt + Ctrl + Top arrow = Normal Orientation (helpful when you have accidently changed the orientation and want to revert back to normal orientation.
  • Alt + Ctrl + Down Arrow – Landscape (flipped) orientation mode, the task-bar on the top edge (of an unrotated monitor)
  • Alt + Ctrl + Right arrow – Potrait (flipped) orientation mode, the task-bar is on the left edge (of a unrotated monitor.)
  • Alt + Ctrl + Left arrow – Potrait orientation mode, the task-bar is on the right edge (of a unrotated monitor.)
